Who we are

There is no shortage of churches in our world today. In the midst of all this diversity, what is so special about Towne South and the fellowship of Christian Churches and churches of Christ of which this church is a part? This movement of churches, which had its origin in the American frontier days, has as its goal returning the church to the ideals which emerge from the pages of the New Testament. It is a movement of churches whose basic goal is unity in faith, freedom in opinions, and love in all things.

One of the leaders of this restoration movement, Thomas Campbell, set forth this principle: That the church of Christ upon earth is essentially, intentionally, and constitutionally one. A key passage of Scripture to understand is Ephesians 4:3-6: "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body ...one God and Father of all."

What We Believe

We believe the Bible is God's Word and is the final and sufficient authority for truth, for life, for belief, for behavior and for the Church and its purpose, strategy and function. We don't want to do more than the Bible teaches, nor do we want to do less. Based upon this principle, at Towne South:

  • We accept that Scripture is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
  • We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God, "a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path." (2 Timothy 3:16)
  • We believe in one God, eternally existing in three person: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three in one - coequal, which is the Trinity. (Matthew 28:19)
  • We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only son of God who died for our sins and arose from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)
  • We believe that every person has worth as a creation of God, but that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
  • We believe that forgiveness of sins and promise of eternal life are available to those who accept Christ as Savior and Lord. (John 3:16)
  • We believe to accept Christ one needs to repent of sin, confess faith in Christ, and be baptized into Him. (Romans 10:9; Acts 2:38)
  • We believe that the Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and exists to save the lost and edify the saved. (Ephesians 4:1-16)
  • We believe that Jesus Christ will one day return to earth to redeem His church. Christians will be joined with Him together in heaven forever. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
